Ear Training Fundamentals
Theory is only half the journey — the other half is training your ear to recognize what you hear. Ear training lets you identify chords, , and qualities without seeing them written down. It is the skill behind playing by ear, transcribing songs, and improvising with confidence.
This lesson introduces the three core ear training skills: distinguishing chord qualities ( vs ), recognizing (the distance between notes), and hearing chord inversions (the same notes rearranged). Each step includes interactive audio examples and a practice challenge at the end.
Start with the contrast between and , then work through and inversions. The final practice challenge mixes all three skills. Complete this lesson, then continue with the specialized ear training courses for deeper practice.
