Frequently Asked Questions

How do I train my ear to recognize chords?

The Ear Training tool plays a chord and asks you to identify it. Start with the Chords tab (basic triads) and progress through Quality, Inversions, Progressions, and Compare modes as your recognition improves.

What chord types can I train my ear to identify?

The Quality mode covers major, minor, augmented, diminished, dominant 7, major 7, minor 7, suspended 2, suspended 4, and half-diminished chords. Inversions mode adds root position through 3rd inversion identification. Difficulty increases as you progress through levels.

How do I compare the sound of two chords?

Switch to the Compare tab to A/B two chords side by side. The tool highlights shared and unique tones so you can train your ear to hear the difference between chord qualities.

How long does it take to develop chord recognition?

Most musicians notice improvement within 2-3 weeks of daily 10-minute practice. Start with distinguishing major from minor, then add seventh chords, then more complex qualities. Consistency matters more than session length.
