Questions
How do I find the smoothest transition between two chords?
Open the Pair tab in Chord Transitions, enter a from-chord and to-chord, and the tool finds the inversion pairing with the smallest total semitone movement across all voices. The Voice Leading tab extends this to a full progression.
What is voice leading distance?
Voice leading distance measures how far each note must move between two chords, measured in semitones. Lower total distance means smoother transitions. The Pair tab shows per-voice distances for the optimal inversion pairing.
What chords commonly follow C major?
The Flow tab shows the most common incoming and outgoing chord movements for any chord, ranked by frequency from built-in progression patterns. For C major, common next chords include F, G, Am, Dm, and Em.
How do I plan voice leading across a whole progression?
Switch to the Voice Leading tab and paste a multi-chord progression. The tool chooses inversions that minimize movement between every change and shows a per-step voicing plan with note names, bass notes, and movement badges.
