How do I choose the right capo position?

What capo position is best for playing in the key of A?
To play in A using familiar open shapes, try capo on fret 2 using G shapes (G-C-D become A-D-E), or capo on fret 4 using E shapes (E-A-B become G#-C#-D#). The Capo Planner evaluates all options for any key.
Does a capo change the key of a song?
A capo raises the pitch of open strings, so using familiar open shapes at a higher fret transposes to a higher key. The Capo Planner shows exactly which key each capo position produces.
How does capo position affect playability?
